Effectivelly, all materials reflect light to some degree or another. Even clear materials (such as glass) reflect a small amount of light, and, under the right circumstances, can act as a mirror, even without any backing matterial.

  • Ordinary, untreated eyeglasses give some protection.
  • Most plastic lenses give more protection than glass lenses, because glass is transparent to UV and the common acrylic plastic used for lenses is less so.
  • Some plastic lens materials, such as polycarbonate, inherently block most UV.
  • There are protective treatments available for eyeglass lenses that need it, which will give better protection. But even a treatment that completely blocks UV will not protect the eye from light that arrives around the lens.
  • Ultraviolet (UV) light is electromagnetic radiation with a wavelength shorter than that of visible light, but longer than X-rays.

Ozone, also known as Trioxygen (or O sub 3) absorbs harmful UV Rays and stops them from reaching the Earth's surface.

Edit: This happens in the Stratosphere.
