The best thing I have found to do is go to your local wild life department borrow a live trap for a raccoon which the deposit could be from 60-90 dollars. Place it where you have seen the raccoons the most and bait it with tuna fish, canned cat food, canned oysters. (thats what i use) But, make sure the cage is secured to the ground or a fence. Raccoons are very smart and will flip the cage over to get the food. Next find some small holed fence and place around the entire back side where the food is, so the raccoon can not reach in and just grab. I use boards tied to the trap. After you have caught the raccoon, you have two choices depending on your state laws. You will either need to kill it. Straight shot between the eyes or relocate it. (most states prohibit relocation) If you feel you can't kill it you can hire someone to come out to do it for you. No matter what you do when handling the trap with the raccoon in it you must wear protective wear. The best course is to assume it may have rabies. So wear leather gloves, long sleeve shirts, and long pants. When handling the trap, use the handle and don't hold it by the sides or bottom.
After we trap and kill our raccoons we then put them into a burning fire pit, because having them in a trash can will bring in other predators.
Because they are intelligent and have dexterous paws, raccoons can escape from any number of traps. They have removed or bent door hinge pins to squeeze out of the corner of cage traps.
120 conybers, #2 coil spring foot traps and, dog proof traps.
Live trap
You can either get a live trap or put out food like cat food.
Tuna, ketchup, ham, cheese is always good. Most raccoons love cheese puffs oddly enough.
Fish or something aromatic foods to attract them. If it's not practical, contact the critter guy to remove it.
You can use traps like a cage, I recently used a cage, but they can still escape, so I just contacted the critter guy to remove them. It's less hassle for me.
a gun and a trap and some food.
Peanuts
The raccoon uses its paws as well as its sharp teeth to capture prey.
If a raccoon is able to catch a trout, or any fish, it will certainly eat it.
yes its when you are legally allowed
their noses
A raccoon would find it difficult to catch an adult rabbit but would certainly eat bunnies still in the nest.
yes though they both good fighters the raccoon would come on top.
No, raccoons do not stack their prey. Normally they catch and eat it on the spot.
sounds like a raccoon
Raccoons rarely hunt small animals and are probably not fast enough to catch an adult rabbit. However, they might eat baby rabbits or sick ones if given the chance.Raccoons are carnivores and if a raccoon catches a rabbit, the raccoon will eat the rabbit.
Billy sets up a raccoon trap using a hollow tree and a shiny object as bait. Little Ann plays "pretend" to lure the raccoon out, while Old Dan waits in the tree to catch it. Little Ann's tricks and Old Dan's strength work together to catch the raccoon.
Billy catches his first raccoon by setting up a trap using a tin can, bacon, and a sharp stick. He places the bacon inside the tin can, and when the raccoon reaches in to grab the bacon, it knocks over the can and gets stuck. Billy then approaches carefully and is able to capture the raccoon.
call animal control in your area. they will set up a humane trap to catch it then release it in a place that is 'animal friendly'.
