The diesel transmission is not the same as the 460 gas. There are several differences. The diesel requires adjustable transmission modulator, there is an adjusting screw on the modulator to set the shift speed. The vacuum regulator on the diesel engine delivers the correct vacuum to operate the modulator.
Also, the starter bolts to the transmission on gas powered vehicles, and the starter bolts to the cast iron adapter between the engine and transmission on the diesels. Therefore the diesel transmission is not drilled and tapped to hold the starter and the bellhousing in shorter to allow the for the thickness of the spacer used on the diesels.
The final thing is the gearing. The diesel engine rpm range is lower than the gas engines. 6.9 and 7.3 Navistar IDI engines max out at 3600 rpm, gas engines are up above 5000. So the transmission is geared to allow for 55 mph at 2400 rpm (roughly).
The final consideration is the type of output shaft needed. There is slip on yoke, bolt on yoke, etc. The style of the yoke varies with the accessories. Such as a transmission with a parking brake mounted on the back will most likely be a short tail shaft style with a bolt on yoke, where a truck equipped with parking brake built into the rear brake hubs will most likely be equipped with a slip yoke , with either a long or short transmission tail shaft.
Overall length of the truck is also a factor. A truck with an extended cab, crew cab, club cab and a full 8' box will most likely have a carrier bearing in the drive shaft, which usually is equipped with a bolt on yoke.
Old diesel powered ambulance's are a good source for find a C6 for a diesel. There are usually equipped with a slip on yoke and a short tail shaft, and make good replacements for most 2WD diesel pickups.
The automatic transmission behind the Cummins engine in a Ram 2500 is a Chrysler transmission. Depending on the year it could be a 47rh, 47re, 48re, or a 68rfe.
A518 is the transmission if it is an automatic, and if it is a manual then it is a Getrag 360.
It is a completely different transmission than what was used with the diesel before.
47RE
should be a C-6
A518
Automatic, yes
You can buy pretty much any car with a diesel engine, that's automatic. My friend has a Audi TT Quattro with an automatic diesel engine. you're welcome.
That should be a 4L80E transmission.
A 1997 NPR Gasoline uses an automatic 4 speed 4L80E General Motors Transmission. A 1997 NPR Diesel uses a automatic 4 speed JATCO transmission A 1997 NPR Diesel uses a manual transmission MXA5D
4l80e
The automatic is a 47 RE. The manual is a NV4500.
