Cedric Diggory was murdered using the Killing Curse (Avada Kedavra) by Peter Pettigrew on Lord Voldemort's order.
Voldemort wanted to get to Harry and clearly, Diggory was in his way which is why Voldemort did away with him. Also, Lord Voldemort did not want anyone living to warn everyone that he had returned. Considering he planned on killing Potter, Voldemort did not think even he would live to warn anyone.

∙ 13y agoCedric Diggory (portrayed by Robert Pattinson) is killed by Lord Voldemort in the fourth movie, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. He is killed when he and Harry get transported to a graveyard during the 3rd task by the triwizard cup which was a portkey.
