THE SEMINOLES..
The name Taino means "good" or "noble" and was applied to the group by Columbus. The Indians spoke that word to him to indicate that they were different from the Island Caribs, who lived on the islands of the Lesser Antilles, including Guadaloupe and Barbados, and separated the Tainos from South America. It is from these Caribs that we take the name "Caribbean," for the waters south and west of the Gulf of Mexico. None of these people appear to have had any cultural or lingusitic affiliations with the Maskókî tribes that had their villages, towns, and cities across what are now Florida and the southeastern United States and whose citizens were the ancestors of the Seminoles THE SEMINOLES..
