Macduff and Lennox went to Inverness in order to wake up Duncan and go with him on the next part of his trip. Duncan had instructed Macduff not to be late.

What does Lennox hope for? He hopes that Macduff return quickly and frees their country which is suffering under a tyrant! ( line 33).
In Act 4 Scene 1, Macbeth [c. 1014-August 15, 1057] met first the three witches and then the noble Scotsman Lennox. Lennox told Macbeth that Macduff had fled Scotland. The news was disappointing to Macbeth, who was planning to kill Macduff. But he quickly adapted to the change in situation. He decided to have Macduff's entire family and household slaughtered.
Macduff and Lennox. They were supposed to arrive early in the morning and wake up the king. Unfortunately everyone in the castle had partied to late at night and they are all sleeping in, so Macduff and Lennox have to bang on the door.
Macbeth scene 6: Lennox suspects Macbeth, whom he calls a "tyrant," in the murders of Duncan and Banquo. The lord tells Lennox that Macduff has gone to England, where he will join Malcolm in pleading with England's King Edward for aid. News of these plots has prompted Macbeth to prepare for war. Lennox and the lord express their hope that Malcolm and Macduff will be successful and that their actions can save Scotland from Macbeth.
