After the Clash broke up he formed a band called 'the Mescalero's' Joe Strummer was the lead singer and guitarist in the Clash a punk rock band from England with Mick Jones (Guitar/Vocals), Paul Simonon (Base/Vocals), and Nicky Topper Headon (Drums). He started out in a band called The 101'ers, then Mick Jones and Paul Simonon (art school drop outs) asked him to be in a band with them because they like his spunk on stage and his vocals. They started writing songs which were mainly written by Joe Strummer and Mick Jones and occasionally Paul Simonon and Nicky Topper Headon. Their first album was 'The Clash UK Version' and 'The Clash US Version'. One of their biggest albums was 'London Calling' called the best album of the 80's by Rolling Stone Magazine. When the group broke up Joe Strummer formed a band called the Mescaleros which later broke up. During his forties or fifties Joe Strummer died because of a heart malfuction which he was born with, which made a terrible loss on society.
