Much of the East coast was blacked out as Nazi Uboats were sinking shipping all the way from NY to FL. They also did some shelling with their small deck guns.

Obviously, there are no current Confederate generals, but one whose name was in the news recently was Nathan Bedford Forrest, after whom a hgh school was named in Jacksonville, FL. The school board there voted to retain the name, despite controversy over Forrest's pre- Civil War career, which included slave ownership and trading, and post-war involvement with the formation of the Ku Klux Klan. The vote to retain the name was along racial lines, with the only votes to change the name coming from the board's only black members.
The best I can remember (from school, not from being there...) , they were: DE, PA, NJ, GA, CT, MA, MD, SC, NH, VA, NY, NC, RI, VT, KY, TN, OH, LA, IN, MS, IL, AL, ME, MO, AR, MI, FL, TX, IA, WI, CA, MN, OR, KS, & WV. You might be surprised how many people think the Southern States were "taken off" the flag during the Civil War, but none were. That's why the well-known phrase is that the Union was "preserved." Also, flag bearing the 35th star, for West Virginia, became official on July 4, 1863; the day after the 3-day Battle of Gettysburg. Probably more than you wanted to know. LOL
