Continuous mechanical noise sources: Engine and rotating parts, drive belts, transmission, wheel and axle bearings, tires, exhaust systems.

Continuous external noise sources: road surfaces, wind noise.

Sporadic noise sources: Engine misfire or pre-ignition, power steering rack and other steering parts, drive belt noise, brakes, exhaust system, shock absorbers, suspension, loose interior parts (dash board, window regulators), heater/AC fan, wheel bearings (sometimes noticeable only when turning).
