Conditions for African Americans in the south.
The South had the big plantations which needed a huge work force. The North had factories which didn't need quite as much unskilled labor.
1.3 million African-Americans left the south.
The African-Americans tried to escape from the South because the South had slave states. They tried to get to the North because those were free states.
Because they were socially segregated from the whites - so the traditonal songs and legends would tend to come down through the generations.

The Freedman's Bureau had the specific mission to help formerly enslaved African Americans transition to new lives. The Freedman's Bureau set up several schools for African Americans.
The southern half of the country kept the African-Americans as slaves. The northern states never engaged in that kind of behavior.

Slavery devoloped in Georgia because the people in Georgia needed more farmers, so they borrowed enslaved African Americans from South Carolina. Then increased the number of slaves in Georgia.

When people have confederate flags it means that their raciest because when the Union and Confederate went to war for the Civil War, the Confederate which stood for the south believed that African-Americans should be enslaved and they were partial against African-Americans.
The Northern government - because they no longer had to worry about Britain and France aiding the South. (After the Proclamation, it would have made them look as though were pro-slavery.)
