There are very few places that accept personal temporary checks (those checks given to an individual when opening a new checking account). Some places that will:
* Landlords
* Utility Companies
* Telephone Companies
* Municipalities/Local Government Agencies
Most retailers (e.g., grocery stores, restaurants, hardware stores, etc) will NOT take temporary checks. When opening your account, be sure to ask for a debit/ATM card that can be activated immediately. This way, you may use cash in your checking account at retail outlets.
