What planet takes 117 days to rotate?

Best Answer

The 117 days is a bit longer than a "solar day" for the planet Venus. An observer would experience a sunrise-to-sunrise or noon-to-noon solar day of 116.75 Earth days. But the planet is actually only rotating once every 243 days, in an east-to-west direction. The majority of the perceived Sun movement is due to Venus travelling around the Sun, not its spinning.

Astronomers believe that Venus originally rotated normally, but lost its momentum due to collision with another large (planet-sized) object early in its formation.

No planet has a rotation period of 17 years. A rotation is the time a planet takes to spin once on it axis -i.e. Day

The revolution period, is the time it takes a planet to revolve around the Sun.

You probably mean the Earth's Moon. That rotates and revolves around Earth in just over 27 days.

Of course, it's not a planet.

Is a day on venus longer than a year on venus?

Because Venus rotates very slowly, with one rotation taking longer than one orbit. It takes it 224 Earth days to orbit the sun but 243 Earth days to fully rotate. Yes, but the "solar day" is only 117 Earth days,of course.

What is meant about rotation and revolution of a planet?

Rotation of a planet means the overall time of day and night, time for rotate on its own axis. In our earth 12 hours for night and 12 hour for day, total 24 hours. In Venus it takes 117 earth days, as a matter of fact it takes 225 earth days to complete its revolution. It is depends upon gravity. Revolution is time for round round the sun. 365 days and 6 hours in earth is called a year, that means it completed one revolution. The 6 hours is counted 24 hours that means 1 day in 4 years called a leap year. That one day is added to February as 29 days.

Which planet has a day more than half as long as its year?

Mercury's "sidereal day" is about 59 Earth days long and its year is about 88 Earth days long. Venus has a "solar day" of about 117 Earth days and a year of about 225 Earth days.

Why is length of a sidereal day and a solar day on venus so different?

The sidereal day is about 243 Earth days. That is the time for the planet to rotate once . The solar day is 117 Earth days, roughly. That is a big difference. On Earth the difference between these two days is only about 4 minutes. The reason for the big difference on Venus is that Venus rotates very slowly. The solar day depends on the rotation of a planet AND its orbital motion. The slow rotation makes the effect of the orbital motion much greater on the length of the solar day. Incidentally Venus rotates in the opposite direction to Earth. That's why the solar day is shorter than the sidereal day. On Earth it's the other way round.

Which planets day is more than half as long as its year?

It's Mercury or Venus depending on whichthe definition of "day "you mean.

How long is one earth day on earth planet?

This question is meaningless. An Earth Day would be the same length no matter what planet you are on. An Earth day would be the equivalent of 0.004 Venus days and about the same number of Venus year (it takes a whole year for Venus to go round its orbit). A Venus day is 243 Earth days. That's 243 Earth days to rotate once. Astronomers call this a sidereal day. However there is also the solar day of 117 Earth days.

What is the length of day of the planet Venus?

It is about 117 Earth days (for the "solar day") or 243 Earth days (for the "sidereal day").

What is the length of venues day?

I think you mean "Venus". That planet rotates in about 243 Earth days. That is one definition of a "day". It is called the "sidereal day". There is another definition called the "solar day", which takes into account the planet's motion around the Sun. For Venus this is about 117 Earth days long.

How long is one day rotation on venus?

Instead of a similar rotational period to Earth's 24 hours, Venus takes 243 Earth days to rotate once. That's called a "sidereal day". In other words, a "day" on Venus is longer than its "year". This is the longest day in the entire Solar System. (Don't forget the "solar day" though. That's only about 117 Earth days on Venus.)

How many hours does it take Venus to spin once?

It takes about 243 of our days for Venus to do one rotation. That is about 5,832 hours.

117 days = 2808 hours

How many days are in a year on Venus?

There are 88 days in a venus year. That mens if you go to venus for a year and you are 12 when you leave you willl be 16 when you come back. Can you figure it out?
