It depends on whether the bottle is full or empty. If full, it could contain anything. If empty, it probably contains air, which is a mixture of elements....nitrogen, oxygen, argon etc
Well quite a few are used. However, the clear plastic that is used for a soda bottle is nearly always PET with a PVC cap. PET is PolyEthyleneTerephthalate and the PVC is PolyVinylChloride.
