Shortly before President Clinton took office, American soldiers were sent to Somalia. President George W. Bush deployed the soldiers to guard relief supplies and food.
During his presidency, President Clinton sent troops to several regions and countries. Some notable examples include Bosnia and Herzegovina, where he deployed troops as part of a NATO peacekeeping mission; Somalia, where he ordered the withdrawal of American forces after a failed intervention; and Haiti, where U.S. troops were sent to restore democratic order after a coup. He also authorized military interventions in Kosovo and Iraq.
