I have swished with hydrogen peroxide a few minutes before I brush my teeth. That seemed to make a big difference with me. I don't know if it is harmful or not. It could possibly be considered a safe form of bleaching.
Answer:As was mentioned above, rinsing with 100% hydrogen peroxide may brighten some surface stains, but the general consensus at my dental school was that it was too strong and could damage the soft tissue of your mouth. It could be used if diluted with water half and half first. Other than using whitening strips, OTC whitening trays or toothpastes can remove some surface stains in the enamel of your teeth. If you want to remove the deeper staining, professional whitening is normally needed. You could either have an in office whitening (Zoom) or have bleaching trays made. The initial cost will be much higher, but will yield much greater and longer lasting results.
