The first OS was technically LEO I (1951) MS DOS (1981) Linux (1991 Even though MS came out first Linux is based on the much much older Unix based system which came out in 1969.

There is none. For starters, you have it backwards, DOS actually copied most of its commands from Unix (The rest came from CP/M.), which Linux is inspired by. Commands like "cd" and "dir" were Unix commands long before DOS even existed.

And since many Linux programs are free (as in "free beer") you can probably get a program that does what you want at no cost for Linux whereas you'd have to pay for a DOS or Windows program to do that. I use a MAC. It uses UNIX for its operating system instead of MS DOS. A number of older computers used CP/M. Some computers use LINUX. In fact many nations or bureaus, education departments, states, or provinces require LINUX instead of MS DOS. LINUX has many similarities to UNIX and almost UNIX all programs will run on LINUX straight out of the box. A number of MS DOS programs will also run on LINUX.
How do you run a program in Linux?
Generally you run a program by typing in the name of the executable file for that program. If the program is not in the path, then you need to type the full path name, or the relative path name (e.g. ./configure). If the program is not executable, then you can make it executable with chmod +x (but do you really want that program to run). Script files can be run with the appropriate interpreter (e.g. sh configure)
