The station was built in the mid-19th century and the arches were used for the storage of imported goods which had been unloaded from ships and barges in the nearby River Thames before being dispatched to their final destination. When the storage facilities became redundant in the 1970's they were made into a 'horror museum' and opened as a tourist attraction. The site was never a real dungeon, but looks like one and is very atmospheric.
