SI (Systeme International) units are much easier to use than the previous English units, so it makes scientific calculations easier. I can't say that this has made a great difference in the ability of science to progress, but it has at least make the process easier for scientists. Scientists appreciate a logical system of measurement. Science is complicated enough, without having to deal with a complex and arbitrary system of measurement.
