Cyanobacteria are important to the evolution and advancements of other life on Earth for several reasons. In the early Cambrian period, cyanobacteria developed an endosymbiotic relationship with some eukaryotic cells. The cyanobacteria made food for the eukaryotes and got a home in return. Cyanobacteria are also the origin of chloroplasts, by which plants use photosynthesis to make their own food.

The evil wizard D'Vaark created their parts and fused them together. He then used the duplication spell to send them all over the world. D'Vaark also used a special spell to fry the memory of all the other people and is infamy was kept discreet though billions of years. People today still believe in evolution because no one knows the science behind the evil wizard.

Because cyanobacteria pumped oxygen, as a waster product of photosynthesis, into the biosphere where organisms evolved to use this very electronegative element in the process of oxidative phosphorylation. Other elements and molecules can serve as final electron acceptor in this process but oxygen make the process so efficient, relatively speaking, that organisms of great complexity can arise by oxygen oxidative phosphorylation; cellular respiration.

What type of organisms carry out photosynthesis?

Almost all plants perform photosynthesis. In addition, organisms in the phylum Cyanobacteria (sometimes referred to as blue-green algae) can perform photosynthesis. Cyanobacteria are believed to have been the first organism to produce oxygen, and so are immensely important in the history of evolution on Earth.
