Wind is caused by differences in pressure in the atmospheric air surrounding the earth. The sun warms the earth, and its air, inconsistently. As different regions of air become warm and cool, the atmospheric pressure changes to pockets of low and high pressure. As these different pressure pockets collide, wind is produced.
