A sequence of events is the listing of more than one event in the order in which they occurred. The word "chronology" is a list or table of dates in their proper sequence. A chronological list shows a sequence of events.
A sequence of events over time is called a timeline. Depending on the spacing of the events, it can also be called a chronology, a history, or a record. A regular sequence of events over a fixed period of time might also be known as a pattern or cycle.
Knowing the sequence of events can depict a broader picture. In the wake of an event happening someones mind may become fogged and they may not remember. If there was a sequence of events that lead up to that point, then the motive can become clearer.
