The Mayo Clinic has an article on the various water temperatures. Answer: In my experience of working in health & fitness clubs over the past few years i have found that the ideal pool temperature depends on how vigorous the activity the groups are undertaking. I have found that the serious swimmers who plough up and down for hours on end prefer to have the temperature as low as 27 degrees celsius to prevent over heating. Older people and those in water aerobics classes need the water to be warmer to relax muscles and easier stretching of muscles. In general, people are most comfortable at 28.3 (83F) to 31 (88F). Varying the air temperature in an enclosure for the pool may help ameliorate the difference. In our inside pool, if there is a little warmth and humidity, the water at 84 is not bad. When the airconditioning is on to a lower temperature, the water is difficult to get into and stay in for water exercises since it never is warm enough for long.
It is aerobic exercise in a pool of water. Water aerobics is good exercise for people who have trouble walking or jogging, like the elderly or people who have been injured and cannot stand up for long.
