First off let me tell you about my encounter it was 1996 And I was walking home from a friends house I decided to take a short cut over by the power plant which is normally empty at 9pm . I was starting up a hill towards a gravel road which leads behind it and well a coyote and her young pups come out of the woods right towards me she was startled just as much as I was I put my hands up keeping eye contact and said i am not going to hurt I am leaving and slowly backed up backwards and she ran back Into the Woods when I was at safe distance away. now on the way home I ran into another one and I walked away without a scratch or bite it was a little further away that time i think her mate was watchin me . though all encounters are different I would ask a wildlife center about what to do. but in my opinon keep eye contact and don't turn your back till your at a safe distance cause were there is one there maybe two in the area . that's my opinon.
You should NOT run, as that will cause the animal to run after you. You should back up slowly while making as much noise as possible.
Pat it and give it lots of cuddles!
Make yourself look big, and AVOID EYE CONTACT. If the big cat makes a movement to come toward you, keep making yourself look big and yell as loud as you can at it.
stay alm once the cougar walks away then walk away and don't show any signals that you are sacred
Bobcats avoid people and there are few reports, only one or two, of bobcats ever attacking humans.
Get the dog to a veterinarian to have it treated and make sure the dog is up to date on rabies vaccine.
you kill the coyote with a gun
Run?
It depends on your dog's health, but a dog and coyote mix should live for up to 14 years.
There is no 'dog equivalent' of a coyote as they are two separate species, the coyote belongs to the Canis Latrans species and the dog is of the Canis Lupus.
