For example:
- First reader proofreading: does the work make sense? Does it flow from most general to specific? Will it make sense to the reader?
- Structural edit proofreading: are the topics in order or sequence or easily reference-able?
- Editorial proofreading: does the topic fit the assignment? Is the material up-to-date? Does this writer's voice work with our audience? Is the writing crisp and non-repetitive? Is the work engaging for a reader?
- Verification proofreading: are all the facts verifiable? Are the sources reliable? Are the quotes appropriate given the source?
- Grammar and spelling: are the sentences complete? Is spelling correct? Is appropriate punctuation used?
Some of the tasks can be combined for one proof reader -- this will be hard work with multiple passes -- and others expanded so that multiple proofreaders perform the work.
