- To be a little more specific, it is in what we call the right lower quadrant of the abdomen; meaning if you divide your abdomen into four sections, it's in the lower one on the right. If you draw a diagonal line from your umbilicus (belly button) down to your hip bone on the right, the appendix is usually about 2/3 of the way down this line to the bone. However, certain conditions - such as pregnancy or previous surgery - can change the location of the appendix.
- Actually, although both are correct in that it is USUALLY found on the right side of the body, and Dr. B was very precise in his/her description of the location, there is a condition called situs inversus in which the internal organs are found on the opposite sides of the body - in which case, the appendix would be found on the left.
