Disconnect the battery, remove all spark plugs, and turn it over with a socket at the crankshaft.
Remove the engine brush cover under the front of the engine. Remove the drive belt to make changing the sensor easier (optional). Remove the lower timing belt cover and the crankshaft pulley to access the crankshaft position sensor. Disconnect the electrical modules from the crankshaft position sensor, located next to the alternator. Take off the bolts with a socket wrench and remove the sensor.
It's easy its just above the starter remove the starter with 1/2" socket your crank sensor is right there one 10mm socket
taken from wikiRemove the cable from the negative battery terminal with a socket wrench. This ensures that you don't start the engine accidentally while removing the crankshaft balancer.Detach the accessory drive belts surrounding the crankshaft pulley to gain access to the pulley.Raise the vehicle with a floor jack and support it on jack stands. Disconnect the right front wheel with a lug wrench. Remove the fasteners for the inner splash shield on the right front fender with a socket wrench. Detach the splash shield from the right front fender.Disconnect the mounting bolts that attach the crankshaft pulley to the crankshaft sprocket with a socket wrench. Perform this step only if your engine has a displacement of 1.5 liters, 1.6 liters, 2.0 liters or 2.4 liters.Remove the retaining bolt in the center of the crankshaft pulley with a socket wrench. Perform this step only if your engine has a displacement of 1.5 liters, 1.8 liters, 3.0 liters or 3.5 liters.Attach a puller to the crankshaft pulley, and remove it from the crankshaft. The crankshaft balancer is part of the pulley.
Turn engine with a socket on the front crankshaft pulley.Turn engine with a socket on the front crankshaft pulley.
Usually with an air impact wrench. There is really no way to hold the crank and use a regular wrench or socket.
It should be a 36mm socket.
do you mean the harmonic balancer...ok..to remove you need to remove the fan and shroud assembly. YOu may need to remove the radiator to get enough room to get a impact gun and a socket on the nut to remove the harmonic balancer if you dont have a impact you are going to have to lock the engine and get a large breaker bar and a socket on the nut and then remove the part.
You have to split the engine cases and remove the crankshaft. Then remove the crankshaft bearings. Use a seal driver or large socket and knock out the seals. Lube new seals and drive them in. Replace all the seals in motor, new crank bearings, and mine as well throw in a new piston and rings since its all apart anyway.
You must remove the crankshaft pulley (19mm socket) and then the timing cover but it appears to need the engine jacked up, to remove the front to frame mount to get the new belt in.
Answerif it is a 454 or an 8.1 L it is in the bottom of the timing cover by the crank pulley. You will need a 10mm socket to remove the sensor.
Remove the ashtray and slide the panel beside where it was, to the right into the position where the ashtray was. This should then reveal the diagnostic socket.
