Generally it is more of a preference than functional differences. A studio apt is usually an open space, combining kitchen, bedroom, etc in an open room format. Possible cons would be not having separate rooms for kitchen, bedroom etc. Possible pros would be having a large or open space for a living area.
There are many good space heaters according to Consumer Reports. The best space heaters recommended by Consumer Reports would be the Lasko space heater brand.

We do not have a need for a space heater so I have not used one in the past. I would not use kerosene but I would use electric if necessary. Dyson has one that is pretty cool looking.
