Best Answer

You can decrease acceleration by either one of both of the following methods:

  1. Decrease the force that is causing the acceleration; or
  2. Apply a force that opposes (that is, is pushing in the opposite direction of) the force that is causing the acceleration.

Newton taught everybody that Net Force = Mass * Acceleration. Since we're talking about acceleration, we can rearrange that to be Acceleration = Net Force / Mass. If you want to decrease the acceleration of an object, you would need to decrease the net force applied to it or increase its mass (or both).

Good Question. If you think in terms of keeping the object's acceleration constant the whole way through, then more mass will slow down the acceleration. Unfortunately, this is never the case. An object's acceleration cannot be "slowed down"; it can either have a negative acceleration or a positive acceleration. Hope my answer helped! (:

As I see it, you have three choices.

1). Decrease the force that is acting on the object and accelerating it in the direction
in which it is accelerating.

2). Apply a force to the object in the direction opposite to the direction in which
it is accelerating.

3). Glue some additional pieces onto the object, to increase its mass.

Slow down, speed up, change direction, or slow down and change direction, or speed up and change direction.
