Here is a site with all types of penguin sounds as well as information.

It depends on the breed and the circumstances. Some sound like a honk. African "Jackass Penguins" squawk or bray like a donkey.
They can growl threateningly at quite a low pitch when faced with danger; they "gakker" (onomatopoeic technical term) when disputing territorial boundaries. The young ones "peep", like many young birds.
But the commonest sound, I would describe as "old car failing to start".
=====If you can imagine the coo of a dove, and then add some underlying warbling trills to it. It also sounds like rather like a delicate, higher-pitched seal or walrus, in a way.
It can sound mournful, and happy, just like any voice, really.
If this response was too cheesy, or if it didn't make any sense, then go to discovery.com and look up 'penguin'. You're sure to get some educational penguin shows.
