An extremely large amount of it is baron wasteland of snow and ice. Some areas though, they're not covered with snow and even have tiny bits of plant life growing. Otherwise, it's just as is said. Cold, dark, and empty.

Antarctica's land mass covers 10% of the earth'S surface. Since 98% of the continent is covered with an use sheet, the exact profile of most of the continent is unknown. Technical scans, however, do reveal that some of the continent is weighed down by the of the ice sheet mass, making the elevation of some land areas below sea level.

Antarctica is, however, the highest continent on earth in terms of elevation.
