Antarctica is protected by international treaty which prohibits mineral extraction as well as any military activity. No one owns it though different countries have claimed different parts. There are no plans to change any of this, so Antarctica will likely continue to remain a peaceful, undisturbed region of scientific research with some tourism around the coast.
