One reason why your Murray lawn mower may fade in and out when it's running could be the gas. It the gas was leftover from the year before, you may have to empty it and put fresh gas in.
This question makes no sense, gas is gas, regardless of where it comes from.

If you use gasoline of any grade in a gasoline powered mower, it will be fine. I often use mixed gas for my 2 stroke chain saw in my 4 stroke mower with no ill effects other than some additional smoke and smell. If you put diesel in a gasoline mower, that is bad and could ruin the engine If you put gas in a diesel mower you will immediately ruin the high pressure injection system.
All lawn mowers are different so I cant give you a specific answer as to where to put the gas in. But all lawn mowers come with an owners manual so i highly suggest you refer to that because you may also need a specific type of gas
Drain it and dilute with gas while engine is hot so that you can burn it out. You will be hard pressed to crank it cold on diesel. If the engine is cole, spray carb cleaner in carb to warm it and burn it clean.
Usually lack of oil or somebody put something in the gas.
you could try putting a cup of sugar crystals into the gas tank.......
If all oil the mower will not start. If only a little oil, the mower may start but run rough and smoke very much.
