People living in The Andes use llamas to transport things up and down the mountains as they can easily climb the steep hills. The llamas are grazed on the highest areas because they soil isn't very good there so it's useless for agriculture. A lot of people grow subsistence crops (crops for themselves) because travel is difficult so it's good to have easily acessible crops. Crops are grown on terraces. These are flat areas of land cut out of the steep hill side to prevent soil slipping and nutrients being lost. Apparently the people have biologically adapted to altitude/lesser amount of oxygen up there, but I don't know how reliable that is.
