Friction can be maximized or minimized in several ways depending on the material, device construction and purpose, for example:Minimizing friction of a circling axis can be made by bearings, which usually have rolling balls. The force of friction between two objects is the product of the normal force and the coefficient of friction. The normal force is the component of force that is perpendicular to the plane of friction. For example, if you are pushing on a block of wood on the floor with a force F at an angle of 30 degrees above the horizontal, then the normal force N = F sin 30. The coefficient of friction is specific to the two materials, in this example the block of wood and the floor. In addition, there is a static coefficient of friction (applicable to a stationary situation) and a kinetic coefficient of friction (applicable when the object is already moving).

There are different ways through which helpful friction be increased. The easiest way is using coarser or rougher surface to increase resistance.

You can increase friction by increasing the roughness of a surface or by increasing the force pushing the surfaces together. You can decrease friction by using lubricants or reducing the contact area between the surfaces.
Friction can be increased by reducing the speed of the moving object. Friction can also be increased by increasing the weight of the moving object.
With increased surface areas in contact, friction increases.
A force can change the speed of an object by accelerating it, such as pushing a car to make it move faster. Alternatively, a force can also decelerate an object by applying a braking force to slow it down.
Rougher surface and more weight to the object increases friction
Increased friction is caused by rougher surfaces, higher pressure between the surfaces, or the presence of contaminants such as dust or debris. Friction can also increase due to higher velocities or sliding speeds between the surfaces.
