Only the American black bear lives in California. The grizzly has been extinct in that state for a number of years.
Black Bears
Bears can survive in almost any natural setting, including the forests of Yosemite. They can also travel to within a dozen meters of humans without being detected. Thus, Yosemite bears have had no problem getting to campgrounds in Yosemite, or anywhere else. Any place that bears have learned that easy food is available, they'll go there, until they are "taught" that the danger of entering a place is not worth the chance for food.
Black bears are probably located all over this national park.
some brown bears live in the woods but some live in the rain foest
