I do a simple workout that is really effective on getting abs and strong legs that is perfect for 11-13 year old who really want to get a good healthy workout.
It is called a countdown workout, it is where you do something like this:
1. 50 sit ups (if that is too much depending on how you would like to workout, minimize the number however you want)
2. 40 jumping jacks (seems like a lot, but after you do the 50 sit ups, it is like a cool down)
3. 30 mountain climbers (this is when you put your hands on the ground, shoulder length apart, and jump switch your legs back and forth 30 times)
4. 20 star jumps (this might seem a little baby-ish but once you start, your legs will be solid with muscle. A star jump is when you touch the floor, squat, and jump as high as you can into the air, very effective)
5. 10 push ups (easy as pie, for push ups, just keep in mind that your fingers are spread, arms are shoulder length apart, and your back/butt/legs all stay in a plank position)
6. 5 crunches (the perfect cool down)
Try doing this every night or so for as long as you want, and see how easy it is to work up a good routine.
just a reminder, while you are doing this, make sure you have WATER drink tons and tons of water not just for this workout, but through out the day too. Water is the secret!!

Work out after school or start your own sport. My English teacher started a girl's lacrosse team last year. We had a good turn out. You can run with your team or get into some sort of physical activity (like throwing the ball, catching, ect...)
