For building you use building sand. This is a finer sand than the likes of plastering sand, which is much coarser. Both can be bought in most builder merchants, or anywhere you would buy concrete or concrete products and I think B&Q do sell small bags. This would be much more expensive as sand is very cheap, but when bagged for DIY shops this can put the price up.

∙ 13y agoPlayground sand will cake up or make clay so it important to use "coarse" sand when gardening. Before Qwikcrete became popular, course sand was easy to find at any hardware store because it was used to make concrete from scratch. Now it is more difficult to find but worth the effort, whether you are landscaping with sand or using it as a soil additive for herbs, etc.
