Alpha Andromedae (Alpheratz, Alpherat, Sirrah or Sirah is the brightest star in the constellation of Andromeda.

It is actually a binary system composed of two stars in close orbit.

The primary star has a spectral type of B8 and is a blue giant. It is also quite rare as it is also classed as a Mercury manganese star. [See related link]

The secondary star has a spectral type of A3 and is a white subgiant.
