If you are attempting to measure the volume of the liquid you would use pints, quarts or gallons if using the English measuring system, or liters (and components thereof) if using the metric system. If measuring the weight, you would use pounds or kilograms (or derivatives thereof). If attempting to measure viscosity, you would measure in seconds through a cup (typically #2 Zahn or #4 Ford).
