The Esophagus is the long smoothe muscle tube that connects the Pharynx to the Stomach. It runs down the posterios of the Thorax (chest) until it reached the diaphragm where it passes through and joins imediately to the stomach. It is joied via a short section of the same tube called the Cardius. Within this section is the Cardial Sphincter which is present to stop acid from the stomach traveling back up into the esophagus.
