One of the strategies we used against Japan was called Island Hopping, where US forces sent bombing runs on islands, claiming each island as to get closer Japan. Later on, in August 6th and August 9th of 1945, the US used two atomic bombs on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. This strategy can be termed one of terror and annihilation and justified by military experts outside of the USA.

In the Pacific, the United States used the strategy of Island hopping. The United States would destroy Japanese Ships so the solders could not withdraw from an island. Then the United States would conquer selected islands to use as bases and leave the rest in Japanese hands. The Japanese solders on the bypassed islands would simply live on fish and coconuts.
