In generalised terms, people were unsatisfied with the feudal way, especially those with money. The initial goal was not to overthrow the monarchy however, just make it a constitutional one, and in line with bourgeoisie interests.
The country was in debt, and since all of the taxes fell upon the 3rd Estate, it caused a growing dissatisfaction. Louis the 16 th was unable to make the 1st and 2nd help pay, and Marie-Antoinette was a convenient scapegoat.

It didn't. The only real link is the fact that much of the money problems that caused the French to rebel was caused by the American's failure to repay debts owed.
