Yes it is the reason why most of them are killed, not only that but they may also die because of loss of food or by health reasons. The most important reason is because their tusks get chopped off and an extremely big amount of blood pours out until they die or it stops by a blood clot.

∙ 11y agoDepends on who has the tusks. Usually people poach and kill elephants for their tusks and sell the tusks in the black market. People can make furniture and jewelry with the tusks. It is illegal to poach in Africa but people still do it anyway.
