The most important part of the manor was land. It was divided into sections that were for the lord's personal use, for common use by the serfs, and for use by each individual household of serfs.

The serfs had their cottages.

The lord had a manor, and there may or may not have been other nice houses for other members of his family.

There were barns and stables.

Often there was a church, and sometimes there was a village, though this may actually have been a aggregation of serfs' cottages.

Sometimes there was a castle, if the lord was of sufficiently high rank. But in many times and places, castles were not permitted without approval of the king.
