I assume you're referring to the Lewis & Clark duo? Lewis owned the map and (at that time) the only compass in the United States. Clark, the smarter of the two, could read the map. (The map was in Mayan, hard to decipher.)

Meriwether Lewis was an American explorer who, along with William Clark, led the Lewis and Clark Expedition from 1804 to 1806 to explore the newly acquired Louisiana Purchase. Their journey provided valuable information about the geography, flora, fauna, and Native American tribes of the western United States, significantly expanding knowledge of the continent. Lewis's detailed journals and maps from the expedition proved crucial for future exploration and settlement of the American West.
