really bad. there were many people dying each day. children were working 12 hour days, and they would make them climb into machines and fix them, so they would get killed a lot. :*(

Children also got there hair scalped from getting too close to the machines, there fingers crushed and some even died from falling asleep and falling into the machines. This was because they worked 12 hours a day, some even more, and were very very tirred... :(

It depends on where you were living, and what your social class was. For upper class elites, the 1830s were generally comfortable, with access to theater, music concerts, good books, nice homes, and beautifully-made clothes. But for the poor, there were few opportunities to get an education and learn to read, and even fewer occasions to listen to music or go to see a play; the poor tended to live in harsh conditions, and their clothes were not in any way fancy or elegant. The poor often had to send their children to work at a young age, since there were no child labor laws in most places. But on the other hand, it is worth noting that in 1830, whether you were rich or poor, there were fewer of the modern conveniences we take for granted today-- no radio, no TV, no electric lights, no cars, no telephones, etc. But most people didn't mind, since none of these things had been invented yet.
