For example, in the early dynastic periods women were allowed into priesthood (and even the position of Pharaoh, like queen Hatshepsut), but by the era of the New Kingdom (ca 1550 BC) this was exclusively reserved for men. In the Graeco-Roman period, women again had access to clerical positions until the rise of Christianity.
