There were many aircraft used in WW1. The aircraft were usually identified by the manufacturer's name and a designation and number. Some had common names. Some German aircraft had names given to them by the British and some had names that were commonly used by the Germans.

I don't know which German fighter plane you refer to.

Some names

Eindecker - single-wing fighter that was very effective early in war.

Tri-decker or Triplane or Fokker Triplane - all are names that refer to German triplane used towards the end of the war. This one was made famous by the "Red Baron", who was shot down in this a/c.

More names of Fighters

Albatros

Pfaltz

The RAF had several fighter planes in WW2, but perhaps you are thinking of the Supermarine Spitfire. It served as a fighter plane to the end of the war, and as a ground attack plane in Korea and Malaysia, but it is best remembered for its role early in the war, in the Battle of Britain.
There were several, but the two most well known one are probably the Spitfire and the Hurricane.

There were many British fighters in WW2. Possibly the most well known were Hurricane and Spitfire. There were also Tempest, Whirlwind and Mosquito fighters. The Spitfire had many variations and was so adaptable that even the USAAF used them in many areas.
