In simple terms, the outcome of the 1930s appeasement policy of Great Britain and France was World War II -- with a vastly more powerful German opponent to be confronted, along with Italy as Germany's ally. It can be claimed that appeasement enabled the Western Nations to re-arm and otherwise prepare for war; however, it remains the general consensus among historians that German and Italian strength was more greatly empowered through appeasement than that of the Western Allies.
