HE was a great leader in all his work. He was well known and loved by most people. They thought that it would be good to have that figure as the leader.
During the American Revolution George Washington was chosen to be the leader of the Continental Army. This occurred because of his understanding of the soldiers and their needs during these types of events.
He went to them. He had a tailor make a blue uniform with brass buttons and at over 6 feet with his red hair he must have made a real sight. He argued that he had fought in the French and Indian war as a British officer so he was the only person who had experience enough to command the colonial forces. At 40 years old he was in his prime and had served in the House of Burgesses so he was known to the men in congress. They gave him the commission, but warned him that if he failed he would go down in history as a failure.
